How to sleep well during the lockdown period?

healthy lifestyle

1. Set Schedule

Set your daily schedule can facilitate a sense of normal even in abnormal times, or the lockdown or WFH is going to be the new normal. Your body and mind are not good at responding to major variations in your daily times.

Try to fix your wake-up time, relax time, and bedtime. In addition to the specific time point, you can also block off a specific time period for meditation, exercise, and some special rituals that work for you.

2. Bed for Sleep Only

The bed is only reserved for sleep, not for work. This means that working-from-home shouldn’t be working-from-bed. It also means avoiding bringing a laptop into bed to watch a movie or series.

If you find that you’re having a hard time sleeping, don’t spend more than 20 minutes tossing and turning. Instead, get out of bed and do something relaxing in very low light, and then head back to bed to try to fall asleep.

Frequently changing your sheets, fluffing your pillows, and making your bed can keep your bed feeling fresh, creating a comfortable and inviting setting to doze off.

3. Exposure to light

Exposure to light plays a critical role in keeping your circadian rhythm. Natural light has positive effects on circadian rhythm even if there is no sunlight. Many people find outdoor time is most beneficial in the morning, and as an added bonus, it’s an opportunity to get fresh air. If it is not very convenient for you to go outside, remember to open windows and blinds to let light into your home during the day.

Besides, we also need to be mindful of screen time. The blue light produced by electronic devices can interfere with our bodies’ natural rhythm.

4. Seek Medical Advice or Take Supplements

If you have severe or worsening sleep or other health problems, it is better to have an appointment with your GP. Nowadays, you can contact them via video, or phone to have a virtual medical consultation.

Hope you can sleep well and we can fight for a normal life together!
